Family History

After Charles Dewitte (1877-1968) married Mary Gossens in 1907 they purchased this lovely brick cottage. They raised their two daughters, Margaret and Leona, here on Charles’ meager salary as a fireman for the coal mines.

The sister house at number 522 was owned by Charles’ brother-in-law Joseph Zink, a carpenter for the railroad. He lived in his fine brick house with his wife Julia, daughters Emma, Katherine, Mabel, Louise, son Johnny and elderly father-in-law.
