c.1908 Sears Kit Homes – Save This Old KY Fixer Upper Sears House $50K
If the realtor’s description had not stated that this was a Sears Kit house I would not have guessed. Alterations have been made that make it unrecognizable if indeed it is a Sears home. The half moon and octagon windows (and their placement) look ridiculous. The original front porch with gingerbread is long gone, and the house is gutted. Built in 1908 for the postmaster of Centertown, this may be one of the earliest Sears Kits as they were only around from 1908 to 1940. Sears started selling building supplies in 1895 but not kit homes until 1908. In 1913, the price for No. 115 was just $587.
This Sears Kit No.115 is located in Glasford, Illinois. It looks more like the original design than our featured home. The Glasford home, however, is not for sale.
