History
Built in 1909, the risticated concrete block building originally functioned as a one-room schoolhouse, known as Bash Hill School, and was part of District No. 5 in Whitley County. Back in the day, schools were spaced out in townships to ensure children didn’t have to travel far, especially since automobiles were rare at the time, and most children either walked or rode horses. As you can see from the photo below, the school once had a bell tower, which has since been removed as well as the outhouse on the one-acre lot.
