Sold – c.1910 Fixer Upper Victorian Home For Sale in Syracuse, NY. $22K
273 W Borden Ave, Syracuse, NY 13205. $22,000 Sold
OHU50K NOTES
Number 273 W Borden St. sits on a street on once grand homes a stone’s throw away from Kirk Park. You can tell by the gorgeous woodwork that the home was once owned by a well-to-do family, but as the neighborhood declined, so did the condition of the home.
Family History
This was the home of Orla Stoddard (1876-1954) and Maude (Stoddard 1879-1955) from the 1930s to the mid 1950s. Orla was a machinist for a steel company and Maude kept the home and enjoyed hosting social events here for her church groups and political club. She also served as a board member of Syracuse Hospital and as president of the Kirk Park Community Club.
The couple passed away within a year and a half of each other. Then the Stoddard Estate was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Beckley. Robert worked for Easy Washer Company. Apparently, they lived in the home for about a decade.
Next we find the Greene family residing here. The year was 1966 when 7-year-old Joseph Lee Greene was reported missing. Never found an update on the boy, so I assume he was found.
