The saddlebag style of house, popular between 1901 and 1930,  is one of the most distinctive house types in Georgia. It gets its name from a central chimney flanked by two rooms on either side. The rooms are typically square, and although this roof is hipped, roofs are usually gabled. Two subtypes exist, the first with one exterior door that leads into a vestibule. Our featured house is the second subtype with a front door on each side of the chimney into each room.
