I live next door to this house. I had wanted to purchase it quite badly but sadly the realtors weren’t very interested in selling it as it wasn’t a lot for a commission so they were more than unhelpful. Apparently a Canadian lady found a way to contact the original owner and paid $10,000 cash for it.

She stayed at the house for a week and brought absolutely no furniture or possessions with her when she arrived. She mentioned that she didn’t sleep very well on the air mattress she had bought and had only had the few pieces of furniture the house came with. She said she hadn’t been feeling to great but attributed it to her restless nights of little sleep. We had planned to help her in addressing some of the more severe issues with the home and it’s cleanup but she then received a job offer in Alaska. I offered to buy it for $15,000 but she said she could get $30,000 for it from someone in California. We offered to attempt to do some work in shoring up the foundation leaks and dry the basement out for her each time it rained but she wasnt at all interest in it.

She left the following morning . It’s been over a year since she was here and the house has a major foundation breach that continuously dumps water into the basement causing it to mildew and mold without proper attention to the issue. One night a U-Haul showed up with three occupants who walked inside and then immediately left quite hurriedly. Apparently it triggered the man’s asthma so bad he could hardly set foot inside. It really is a sad thing to watch a beautiful house fall into nature and disrepair so quickly . I fear if the foundation crack along the entire south wall is not addressed soon it may be too late to make this place livable again with all the mold spores growing inside the home. I still like the place but my husband, who is more spiritually sensitive than I am thinks the home has some serious evil lurking inside. I do get the Heebie jeebies from it on occasion. Like when the attic fan is spinning and screetching so loudly every few minutes but there’s no noticible wind blowing when it does.. it only does it on occasion with what seems to be nothing at all to do with the weather. And alot of cats and animals seem attracted to it but always come away from the yard with a wild look in their eyes and rather hostile. Even my own cat does. So maybe I should let this very interesting and strange place be what it will be and keep on my search for a large beautiful Kansas home that’s a fabulous steal. Sad as that is. It’s not nearly as sad, however, as the small under the basement stairs little cubby we found when we were helping the owner remove moldy old carpet. You wouldn’t even know it was there until you moved a piece of paneling and found this little cubby lined with moldy quilts that had 2 gallon water jugs and some old costume jewelry and children’s toys that obviously had been there for decades. It looked like a room where a child either hid or was put into as punishment. Or maybe just a spot to hide from tornados and my imagination just locked into a more disturbing option as it seemed to fit the feel of the house more than the innecent option for the cubby. I’d like to contact her again and renew my offer but the # I had for her it’s no longer connecting when I last called. To bad really. It is such an interesting place with such a bright and childlike decor theme throughout. The doorbell even plays a song.
So for anyone whosecurious about this home that looks like a scene from midnight in the garden of good and evil, let me reassure you that it most certainly might be just that…

That’s a shame! I called the agent numerous times and was finally told it was off the market and essentially hung up on. I even searched for the owners numbers but the one’s I found were disconnected.

I wound up buying a house in Oklahoma but this house in Kansas has literally called to me in my dreams many many nights! I feel like I belong there in some weird way and need it ‘back, as if I lived there before. I’ve heard this happening to people before, but didn’t think I could be one of them.
