Family History
Per Galesburg Register-Mail: September 26, 1940
“O.C. CARLSON, FORMER “Q” EMPLOYE, EXPIRES
O.C. Carlson, for 36 years employed as a C.B. and Q. machinist until his retirement two years ago, died at 3:15 o’clock this morning in his home, 997 East North street, of complications. He had been in poor health for a year, and was bedfast a week.
Carl Oscar Conrad Carlson was born in Kristadala, Smoland province, Sweden, on April 7, 1873. He came to this country with his parents when he was three years old. The family settled in Galesburg, but when Mr. Carlson was eleven years old, his mother and father died. He then went to the home of an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. C.V. Larson, in Funk, Neb., where he was reared and educated. When he grew to manhood, he returned to Galesburg and began work for the “Q” in the roundhouse, where he served until his retirement.
Mr. Carlson was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran church, and belonged to Alpha lodge of Masons and the Burlington Veterans association.
He married Jennie Peterson on Aug. 2, 1911, in Galesburg, and she survives with two children, Oscar Philip and Jeanette Marie, both at home; an uncle and several cousins in Sweden.”
