c.1918 Old Mill Workers House in Georgia Under $50K
May 4, 2024
OHU50K Notes $49,900
Built in 1918, this old mill workers house in Georgia is one of many on the same street. The home is located in a town originally known for agriculture but later transitioned into a textile town. 1907 saw the first textile mill in town, just eight years after the arrival of the railroad. The mills hired hundreds of workers. Although little remains of some of the old mills, Mohawk Industries is the only textile-related company that still operates in town today.
Apparently, although only 762 square feet, these homes housed two families with a shared kitchen and bath, thus the two front doors. This one needs a lot of work, but it is interesting to check out the Google street map view to see the alterations that have been made by homeowners to these mill houses over the years.
