A 1912 oil boom led to the Cushing’s development as a refining center, and there is a high probability that the first residents of our home today worked at the oil refinery. The oil boom, however, didn’t last long. BY the 1940s, the oil fields were running dry, and by the 1980s, the last two refineries closed their doors.

Because Shell’s pipeline terminal is housed there, today Cushing is more of a transshipment point and is known as the “Pipelines Crossroads of the World.”
