Family History

I believe this home and several of the nearby bungalows on the street were built as spec houses in or before 1927 for John. T. Watson, owner of a hardware store. He initially sold it to Ira F. Jones who owned it for a short time before selling it to the Garrett family.  This was the home of the Garrett family for many decades. William B. Garrett (1900-1951) and Bessie Lee Fuquay Garrett (1903-1987) married in 1925 and purchased the cozy home sometime after 1931. William was a proprietor for the Danville Tobacco Warehouse. They resided here with their children Bitsy, Anna, William Jr., Robert and Bessie’s brother Robert Fuquay, an auto salesman. After William Sr.’s death in 1951, the family continued to live in the home. Bessie’s youngest son, Robert, later graduated from Virginia Tech and rose to the level of captain in the U.S. Air Force, serving in Vietnam.
