Handyman Special

OHU50K NOTES

This was the home of Willie Lee Norton (1894-1980)  and Viola East Norton (1899-1993).  Willie , a tall, slender man with light hair and blue eyes, enlisted in June 1917 to serve during WWI, but was discharged a month later and married in November of that same year. The couple purchased the home sometime in the late 1920s and the home remained in the family until Viola’s death in 1993, almost 70 years.  Their daughter, Dorothy Ann, and Viola’s widowed mother, Lillian East, lived with the couple. William was assistant secretary and treasurer at Clements and Parker Inc, a furniture company, and his mother-in-law worked at Herman’s Department store as an alterations saleslady. The home was valued at $5,000 in 1940.
I got a kick out of the story below that made the local newspaper in 1942.
