I can’t tell exactly where in the house the small cupboard is, but it looks like one of those cupboards that the milk man would deliver the daily milk, butter and cheese, so it would be out of the sun.

I think, since the little door is just outside the bathroom door, it might be a laundry shoot. I didn’t read about a basement but…?
