c.1928 School For Sale On 4 Acres in Holden, MO

OHU50K NOTES

It distresses me that the realtor encourages a new buyer to raze this school. We had a similar great old high school that, sadly, was torn down, even after a public outcry. After a new high school was built,  our old brick school stood vacant on Main Street, but served as the public library for a while when the main library was getting an overhaul. The school had two main entrances, one that had “Boys” carved in stone, and the other “Girls.”  We retrieved a few of the bricks when the school was demolished. Medical offices now stand in the school’s place.

History

The first public school in Holden was erected in 1859, shortly after the town was established. In 1870 a four-room brick school was built, but it soon became too small, so a frame school was built., then another larger brick school.  The high school at 100 Market Street burned down in 1927, and this school was constructed in 1928. Two buildings and four acres are included in the sale.

Omg. I see so much potential. An apartment building or hostel with shared bathroom area. The gym could be a gym, movie theater, public area, Not sure if there is a cafeteria but you could have a shared kitchen too. Why not? The rent could be so much cheaper because of the shared amenities. Maybe $300 or $400 a month. Anything over$600 is alot for a single person making minimum wage. It would bring back a sense of community. To encourage interaction, something in today’s world we are lacking. You could hire someone to clean, maybe cook, like they do or did in the hospitals. Make it reasonable prices or include one meal. Like a bnb or boarding house.
I think it would be neat to try it.

That’s going to need a lot of work. EPS/XPS foam clad with new conduit for power and plumbing. Covered in shotcrete and finishes.
