Family History
This was the home of Jessie Ben Cooper (1884-1960). In fact, the little building in front of the house was the J.B. Cooper Co, a retail grocery store. Despite having only a second grade education, J.B., as he was known, worked himself up from being an operator at a cotton mill to owning and operating the successful store from the late 1930s to 1960. He lived in the home with his wife, Eva Williams Cooper (1890-1966) who, according to a slew of newspaper articles, loved to entertain in her home.
