Town History

In the first part of the 19th century, white settlers constructed log cabins in the area which they named Chilletecaux in honor of a Delaware Indian chief who lived there. The town was renamed Butler in the late 1840s, but changed to Kennett so as not to confuse mail delivery with another community with the same same.
