GAAAHHHHH!!!!! My family homesteaded in this area in the late 1800’s/early 1900’s! My grandfather was running away from the Dawes Roll (A Cherokee tribal roll you were forced to be on, and he didn’t want to be Indian). Rosebud is nearby, and my aunt found a pair of tortoises in the area, took them home to Washington state. Had them for about 60 years.
