Unusual, but not very attractive. It is rather like living in a cellar.

2 bedroom, 1 bath, 864 sq ft home. In 2015 the windows were updated, electric panel updated, new sheetrock in the kitchen/living room, and outside overhanging electric lines were buried. Take a look at this unique home.

What were they thinking!?
Someone put a roof on a basement.

So they have put a roof on a basement. What of it? For SD, this is probably a good idea, when you roast in the summer and freeze in the winter. A bit of creativity and this could be a comfy hidey-hole for an introvert.

I had visions of Laura Ingalls living in the dugout on the prairie with Ma, Pa, and Mary while viewing this one. No thanks!

Weren’t the Dakotas first occupied by ONLY these kinds of settler houses? Hacked out of thick mats of turf? “Sod Houses”. https://midwestwanderer.com/prairie-homestead/

Yes. Thank you for the article. You would think that these type of houses would not be conducive for egress in the heavy snow that SD gets.

Looks fine & dandy to me. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, after all …

1 snowstorm and they would never find you until spring lol

Fire hazard! Wooden house, single entrance, no escape access. Not sure which is narrower, the death-trap laundry/utility area, or the ceiling height windows? And what about winter weather conditions? One decent snowfall, and it’s a blackout.

What is above the ceiling? Seems like a ton of wasted space. Raise the ceiling & you could put in larger windows.
