Family History

The Depasquale family owned this home from the late 1910s through the 1940s.  Many immigrants from Italy came to Rutland to work in the quarries and on the railroad. Frank Depasquale was born in Sicily in 1887, came to America in 1906 and married Evelyn Martin in 1916. The couple had two daughters, Carmela and Vivian. Despite having only a seventh grade education and speaking Italian, Frank was able to purchase this home for his family as a shipping clerk for a dry goods company. In 1929, finances became tight, so Evelyn helped out by taking in laundry.

In 1918, the family took in an upstairs boarder, Hattie Fish Bizallion, who was a clairvoyant and performed seances in the home.
