History

The first streetcar to this area ran from downtown down Jefferson Street to the site of the 1894 Paducah Fair and Exposition Center at 28th and Jefferson. From 1890 to 1930, many of the city’s most prominent businessmen built elabortate homes on Jefferson Street,.

This was the home of Benjamin J. Billings (aka BJ, 1874-1947) president of Billings Printing Company and his wife Kate Davis Billings (1873-1945) from the 1920s until the late 1940s. The home was valued at $20,000 in 1930, the equivalent of $375,000 today. The Billings married in 1897 and lived in this home with their daughter, Lougenia, her husband, Walter Jetton, and a half dozen lodgers.
