Family History
B. BRENNEN, a Wilcox merchant, was born in Genesee County, NY, in 1847 in a farming family. His father was killed in an accident on the Erie Railroad around 1860 around the same time the family moved to Wisconsin. Mr. Brennen moved around a lot to different states building roads and buying lots. In 1875 he moved to Wilcox, purchased a farm and built trout ponds on the property which he opened to the public. He subsequently built the Grant House in Wilcox and conducted a business there for five years. The realtor’s build date of 1860 appears to be too early, as it seems Brennen built the Grant House soon after marrying Miss Lena Hedsnecker in 1874. The couple had four children: Fred, John, Charles and Sidney. 1889, Brennen established a general mercantile business.
