Family History
The house is known as the Clara Leake House, but it was owned by both Clara and her husband Russell Leake for many years. The couple married in 1918 and settled in Holly Springs before moving to this house in Rich Square. They had no children. Russell was a very accomplished man. A graduate of Duke University, he he was Dare County Superintendent of Schools and principal of the Robersonville School for 13 years, as well a WWI veteran, and member of the Rotary Club and Masonic Lodge. After Russell’s death in 1961 at age 64, Clara continued to live in the home until her passing in 1978.
