Family History

Soon after their marriage in 1913, Alfred Peter O’Donnell (1880-1950) and Mary Bernice Schnitzler O’Donnell (1890-1972) purchased this home. Alfred was born in Ireland and came to America with his family in 1892 at the age of 12 and eventually became the owner/manager of a paper and paint store. The O’Donnells raised six children in this home, Edward, Alfred, Bernard, Bernice, Rose and Robert.  All four boys served in WWII, one earning the Bronze Star.

In 1930, the home was valued at $30,000, the equivalent of $550,000 today. It appears that the O’Donnells owned the home for almost six decades.
