Family History

This originally was the home of the Gilmore family.  Ruth Gilmore loved to enter contests, but it doesn’t appear she ever won.

In the 1950s and 1960s, the Sylling family owned the home. Grover Sylling was a New Castle policeman and  Lawrence County Jury Commissioner.  Grover and his wife, Leila Caufield Sylling, were married in 1916 and celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1966 at the home. Sadly, the couple lost their only two children, William and Irene, who both died in infancy.
