Family History

This home was owned by Bertha Meade Perry for four decades from the 1920s until the 1960s. Bertha lost her husband Howard Perry in 1923 when she was 43. The couple never had any children, and Bertha remained a widow for 40 years.

By 1968, Jim Hauek was residing in the home. He was one of seven coal miners injured in the 1968 Slab Fork Coal Company No. 8 Mine gas explosion.
