Family History

This was the home of Thomas McDonald (1845-1927) and his family. Thomas and his wife Elizabeth Mcstravock McDonald married in 1865 and came to America in 1875. Settling in Joliet, the couple purchased the home and lived here with their three adult daughters, Mary, Agnes and Margaret. Apparently, Thomas and his daughters put their money together to purchase the home mortgage-free. Thomas worked as a flagman for the railroad, Mary as a machine operator in a factory, and Agnes and Margaret were both teachers in the public school system.
