Family History

After a series of ads in 1920 and 1921, Joseph Burkemper (1883-1958) purchased this home with his wife Agnes Seymour Burkemper. Married in 1915, the couple lived here with their children, Estelle, Jean, Ralph and Raymond. Their first child died as a newborn.  In 1929, daughter Jean (at age 8) was injured when a July 4th torpedo firework burned her cheek. Joseph was a shipping clerk at a glass manufacturing company. The house was valued at $7,500 in the 1930 US Census, the equivalent of $131,300 in today’s dollars.
