Sold – Circa 1914 Fixer Upper Bungalow in Akron, OH $45K
OHU50K NOTES. $45,000 Sold For $40,000 on 6/3/22
Many original elements still remain in the fixer upper, but many have also been lost to the work of DIY-ers. The 1948 newspaper ad below mentions the home having a Youngstown kitchen. Youngstown kitchens were porcelain steel cabinets that are highly sought after today. The house, however, still retains its “Pittsburgh Potty,” a toilet meant to keep city sewage backups relegated to the basement, not the main part of the house. The toilet was not meant to be used.

Family History
With only a 9th grade high school education, Hubert L. Snyder (1900-1940) was able to rent this home for his family in the 1930s for $22 per month. Hubert was a mill operator for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Plant. He resided in the home with his wife Edith Spencer Snyder (1904-2003) and their children; Wilbert, Elmer, Roy and Barbara. Sadly, Hubert passed away in 1940 at the age of 39. His little daughter was only one-year old at the time and his three sons were ages 10 to 15. After her husband’s death, Edith took a job at the Goodyear plant to support her young family. She worked there for 29 years before retiring, remaining a widow for 63 years before she died in 2003. Such a lovely lady.
