Circa 1922 Brick Home For Sale in Detroit, MI $40K – Sold
March 23, 2022
OHU50K NOTES $40,000 Sold
Located in the Petoskey-Otsego neighborhood of Detroit, this circa 1922 brick home still has its tiled breakfast nook area! Then there are the arched doorways, fireplace and cast iron radiators. The property’s original 1922 ad read (see below) that the home had a sleeping porch and two-car garage, both no longer in existence.
In 1922, Thomas Gaynor and his wife Ruth purchased this home for their family consisting of children, Dorothy, Patricia, James and Jean. Thomas made a good living as a salesman for McCalls Pattern Company, and in 1930 the family owned a radio set and valued their home at $14,000, the equivalent of $238,000 today. Thomas died while visiting his daughter Patricia in Virginia, who in 1956 was married and living in Virginia. Ever the little homemaker, at the age of 14, Patricia submitted the recipe below to the Detroit Free Press in 1936.

What in the Heck were these people thinking with this house?

The previous owners really had an eye for draping fabric over windows.
