Circa 1924 Fixer Upper in Evansville, IN $25K

OHU50K NOTES.    $39,900 Reduced to $25,000

Old houses are so full of memories, and this fixer upper is no different. In fact, if this house could talk, it might tell you that the siding is the same that Mr. Kroeger installed in 1938. It might also relate that the clawfoot tub is where young Cletus took his evening bath, and the sink is the same one at which he brushed his teeth when he was five years old. Mrs. Kroeger likely washed those very same windows and swept those hardwood floors. Yes, old houses are so much more than simply wood and glass.

Family History

Charles W. Kroeger (1888-1982) and Bessie Minnie Prignitz (1887-1951) married in 1916. Charles only had an eighth grade education, but he worked hard at a series of jobs, including ice man, coal miner, truck driver, and night watchman. (In 1940, his annual income was just $1,087.) Even so, he was able to purchase this home right before the Great Depression. The couple lived contentedly in the home through the 1940s with their son Cletus . In 1938, Charles installed the siding for $220 that still covers the house today.
