I spent so much time trying to find some history on this Italianate beauty. I did discover that the Sterling family owned the home in the early 1900s until well past 1940. Bert Sterling (1873-1936) was a foreman for a typewriter company who lived here with his wife, Mary Farrell Sterling (1878-1924), and children Thomas and Catherine. Bert and his son Thomas died the same year in 1936, so Catherine inherited the home. She lived alone as a single woman in the large house, employed as an English teacher and librarian at the public school. The house was valued at $4,000 in 1940.
Calling all old home enthusiasts, handy homeowners, and investors!!! This gorgeous Italianate style early 1800’s home was once a beautifully crafted showplace that is begging for the love and vision of a new owner who will appreciate its gorgeous, original features. From the two sets of ornately detailed double entry doors, to the detailed hinges and door knobs, to the inlaid hardwood floors – there’s so much potential for restoration into a single family dream home or a multi-unit investment property with spacious apartments. Many electrical components have been updated and the rubber roof is fairly new, but this is a true ‘fixer-upper so the sellers are looking to entertain offers from cash buyers only please.
Would love to have seen pics from inside the tower, but the pics that are alread available show amazing details. I appreciate the close-ups of the hardware.
One question: what is the original(?)/built-in(?) cabinet-like item in the kitchen with knowbs and dials? (My guess, a food warmer?)

I am the listing agent of this property.
The “tower” doesn’t really seem like a tower inside – just windows with a “jut out” in a bedroom upstairs.
I’m not sure of the proper name of the freestanding kitchen unit, but it’s in a bedroom that used to be an efficiency suite and contains a fridge and a stovetop – pretty cool.
I love this home. I hope whoever buys this keeps with the period when restoring it. Would love to see it when it is all done back to its original beauty..
