306 Veazey St, Union Point, GA, 30669. $55,000
OHU50K NOTES
This foreclosure is located in Union Point, Georgia, a small town of about 1,600 residents. The wrap-around porch, double gables and imbricated shingles make the exterior very appealing. The interior is lovely as well, with hardwood floors, high ceilings, mantels and beadboard.
At around the time this house was built, the primary employer in Union Point was the Chipman-Union Hosiery Mill. According to Heart of Dixie Memories:
Founded in 1894, this mill was headed by the Bryan Family until 1998. This complex has 20 buildings and first manufactured underwear. After 1900, the mill began producing men and boys socks. In the 1980’s, this mill produced the “Odor Eater” brand. The mill continued to operate until 2001. It is so sad to see this huge place abandoned. A lot of the town history is centered on this mill. It is sad to think about how many people this must have employed who lost their jobs at the closing of this historic place!
