Our family was delighted with this 2.8 acre property that we purchased last year. We intended to fix up the cabin and live there, but a dream job opportunity took us to a different state. The previous owners raised wonderful gardens on this land. There are several mature fruit trees, multiple varieties of grape vines, large maple trees, and a creek on the property. There is electricity on the property and a good well.
There is also an hand-hewn log cabin!! It was built in 1850. We were surprised to find that it has a crawl space and foundation and the home inspector found the timbers in-tact! They feel hard as rocks which boggles my mind. The inspector did not think any of the logs needed to be replaced. The home is in need of much repair, but the bones are good! The home needs chinking, re-roofed (though no leaks have been found), stairs and floor repaired, doors and windows, plumbing and wiring. There are two main rooms with a small stairway room in between. The second story is the same. A kitchen and bathroom were added onto the back of the home, but poor materials were used and they need to be demolished. You may notice something white on the timbers in the picture of the room with the fireplace. That is not rot, but some kind of stucco or something that had been applied to the inside of the wall. It is crumbling off. The home has two chimneys on opposite ends of the home. We have a full report from the home inspector that we would be happy to share.
