Fun Friday – Abandoned Star Wars Set – Tatooine in the Sahara

We need some entertainment after seeing tons of dropped ceilings and peeling laminate floors, so Old Houses Under Under $50k introduced Fun Friday a while back. It is a collection of weird structures, usually NOT for sale, simply of interest.  Today we feature an abandoned Star Wars set in the Sahara.

If you have ever wanted to visit an abandoned Star Wars set, the sands of time are against you. The major part of filming for the Star Wars planet of Tatooine movie took place in the Tozeur Desert in Tunisia.

You may recall that Tatooine was a fictional desert planet in the Star Wars space-opera franchise, home of Luke Skywalker and his father Anakin Skywalker.

After production ended, a number of these set locations were abandoned far into the Sahara Desert. Among them is Luke Skywalker’s childhood home from Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope.

Now, some of the abandoned production sets are deteriorating and being swallowed by the Sahara.
