Family History
Clyde served as a Technical Sergeant on B-24J “Black M” #42-110093, 707th Bomber Squadron, 446th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He enlisted in the Army on March 10, 1942 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a sheet metal worker and also as Single, without dependents.
Clyde was “Killed In Action” when his B-24, while on a bombing mission to Karlsruhe, Germany, crashed for unclear circumstances in Longuyon, France, 35 km North North East of Verdun, France during the war.
He was awarded the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
