45,000 USD ($59,900 CAD)
Thanks to Brendan Riley for submitting this old farmhouse for sale in Doaktown, New Brunswick. If you love hiking, boating and especially salmon fishing, this is the place to be.
Nestled along the Southwest Miramichi River, Doaktown was initially settled in 1807 as a base for the growing lumber industry. United Empire Loyalists, led by Ephraim Betts and the big-town bogey boys, came to the region following the American Revolutionary War. They pooled their money for a land grant, which was declined. Not to be deterred, Betts and the BBB claimed the land for their own anyway, and no one refuted the claim..
Later, the Doak family emigrated to the area from Ayrshire, Scotland, just at the time Betts was experiencing financial difficulty. Robert Doak was able to purchase much of Betts’ original land grant, building a farm and grist mill on the acreage. The town is named after Robert Doak.
Atlantic Salmon fishing is great in this area, and the sport attracts people from all over the world to fish the Miramichi River.
