History

This was the home of Joseph and Elizabeth Reynolds. Previously to building this impressive bungalow in 1928, Joseph resided on his large wheat farm in Harper County. He lived there with his wife, children Floyd, Harold, Mable, Roy, Roscoe, married daughter Ruth, her husband Floyd Wheaton, and baby daughter Evonne.

As many farmers did back then, when Joseph retired at around age 65, he moved to town. The Reynolds spared no expense with the woodwork and built-ins for their new home. Joseph still owned the farm, but most likely left it to one of his sons to run.

I’m thinking it may have been Harold. It seems the oldest son, Floyd, had married and was working on his wife’s family farm. Harold served in France in WWI, but returned home in 1919 to work on the farm. It seems likely he took over when his parents moved to town in 1928.
