Indiana Victorian home for sale

Pre-1890 Historic Indiana Victorian Home For Sale – The John Zahn House $120K

OHU50K Notes  $120,000

This Indiana Victorian home for sale has a lacy Queen Anne style porch that was added about 1890. The house retains its original clapboard exterior, and the interior is filled with many original elements that old house lovers will appreciate. My favorite room is the vintage bathroom, though.

Family History

This Indiana Victorian home for sale is one of as many as five houses in the Zahn Historic District built or owned by John Zahn. John identified himself as a bridge builder. Tradition hold that when he completed his house he wanted it to resemble a railway passenger car, thus the number of windows and doors across the front. About 1950, two of the windows were removed, as well as a door which was replaced by a window.
John Henry Zahn was born in Germany in 1828. He lived in this home with his wife, Katherine Zahn (1825-1903) and his nephew John Sebastion Zahn (1856-1927). JOhn Sebastian was just a tender six weeks old when he bacme an orphan. His uncle, John Henry, then adopted him and moved to Bedford around 1857. John Henry was a bridge worker for the Monom railroad.
