These recently sold cheap old houses are getting hard to keep up with, they sell so fast. Not all, but many sold for substantially lower than the original asking price.

1750 Orange St, York, PA 17404      $68,800 Sold for $55,000

OHU50K NOTES

No doubt most of the endearing details have been stripped from the interior of this foreclosure, but the exterior is simply adorable. It appears from Google Maps, that a sister stone house is situated next door. Both had white picket fences and privacy bushes which have since been removed.

It also looks like the home was originally a two-bedroom. The previous owner of my son’s Virginia house did the same thing. He plans to put the wall back up to make it a two-bedroom again. A new owner of this stone cottage would most likely do the same here.

Crime stats are low. Taxes are high.

OHU50K NOTES

We have a motivated seller here.

The c.1915 fixer upper sits across the street from two sister houses. Fixed up, the home could have real curb appeal. I love the curved aspect of the front porch, high ceilings and arched doorway. Unfortunately, the neighborhood has fallen into decline.

OHU50K NOTES

Welcome to Under $50K Sunday.

How about a fixer upper airplane bungalow on a beautiful street of gorgeous older homes in a low-crime neighborhood of Perry, Florida?

Airplane bungalows, born out of the Arts and Crafts Movement, date from the early 20th century.  They resemble Craftsman bungalows, but the airplane bungalow features a “pop up” second floor room or two, similar to a cockpit of an airplane that affords  panoramic views.

143 Benson St, Bowersville, GA 30516       $50,000 Reduced to $45,000 Sold for $35,000

OHU50K NOTES

The fixer upper sits on a one acre lot in Bowersville, Georgia, a tiny town of 465 residents near the South Carolina border. The property is adjacent to the town hall and post office building. In fact, in 1883 Bowersville was named after Joe Bowers, a local post office official.

High ceilings, beadboard galore and hardwood floors are key elements. Although the porch needs work, there is enough fretwork there to replicate a restoration. The house requires significant cash and sweat equity to bring it back to its former self but will be well worth the effort. Super low crime and tax rates.

This is your Dream DIY project in downtown Bowersville! Early 1900 fixer upper home with lots of great potential. Hasn’t been lived in in several years. Tax records reflex that there is a 2nd floor, stairs were removed in years gone by but the possibility to expand is available. Property is nestled on two different tracts of land with 2 outbuildings. Front porch needs lots of TLC. Entry is through back porch door. Permanently covered well located on the back porch. Lots of Pecan trees and flowers in the yard. This property would make a great Bed n Breakfast or Wedding venue!

13 Main St, Fultonville, NY 12072       $75,000 Sold for $75,000

13ny1

OHU50K NOTES

This gorgeous church for sale in Fultonville, New York, was constructed in 1892 as the Calvary Baptist Church. In 1936, a deacon of the church invited the Rev. Floyd Lepper, a lay preacher of the Amsterdam Pilgrim Holiness Church, to give a sermon. Soon after, the building was transferred to the ownership of the Pilgrim Holiness church with the dissolution of the Calvary Baptists.

The church building was purchased for $1,700. In 1939, the Pilgrim Holiness Church was organized by Rev. A. H. Wilson and Rev. H. J. Olsen with a membership of 25, and in 1939, the church was dedicated. The congregation paid off the $1,700 debt in 1945, and the members had a ceremonial burning of the mortgage papers.

Over the decades a number of repairs and improvements were made to both the church structure and the parsonage. With a declining membership, however,  the Pilgrim Holiness Church shuttered its doors and has not functioned as a church since 1992.

Not only would the church make a stunning home, but its great acoustics might lend its use as a music venue or recording studio.

OHU50K NOTES

How about a tiny house on 1.2 rural acres in Webster, Wisconsin?

Lots of people are into the tiny house lifestyle these days. I enjoy watching the tiny house shows on TV and envy those who can simplify, but after my own personal experience with a quasi tiny house, it is not a lifestyle that I want to live again.

You see when we first moved from our 15-acre hobby farm in upstate New York to Cape May, New Jersey, my husband wanted to purchase a house outright, mortgage free. The only thing that we could afford then was a 750 square foot bungalow on a small lot right near the Delaware Bay.

We started with four kids under age eight in that house, but our family soon grew to six kids. Sometimes the noise level was deafening. I went around like a chicken without a head all the time keeping that place neat as a pin. There was one closet in the house, and that housed the hot water heater. And one bathroom for eight people was a nightmare.

I feel like a Grinch now, but I didn’t allow Playdoh, finger paints or Legos in the house for fear of big messes. To have them play outside most of the time, the kids had bikes, big wheels, a trampoline, sporting goods, and of course the bay beach as a playground, but very few indoor toys. That was one upside to a tiny house. All the kids are now physically fit and active adults.

Anyway, a year before the seventh kid arrived, we purchased a big American foursquare on an acre. I finally had a quiet space to read a book in peace and breathe again.

220 S Church St, Bethany, IL 61914    $38,000 Sold for $40,000

220il1

OHU50K NOTES

This beautiful brick church for sale in Bethany, Illinois, boasts an impressive front entrance, amazing stained glass, pockets doors, original pews, ornate cast iron radiators, coffered ceiling, auditorium and kitchen.

Formerly the Presbyterian Church, it was founded by the Rev. G.H. Silvius in 1906, and the building was constructed in 1916.

I knew I had featured this church before, and sure enough, it was sold in March of 2018 for $40,000,  was back on the market for $40K in February of 2019, and taken off  again in May of 2019. Here it is again, another go-round at $38K. I hope someone finds a great use for the gorgeous massive structure.
