Recently Sold Old Houses Under $50K and What They Sold For
March 9, 2020
It is always interesting to see what old houses under $50K have recently sold for. I find that the move-in ready homes and homes with some land or water views usually sell for around asking price, if not more. On the other hand, fixer uppers and homes in shady neighborhoods often take big cuts, like some of the homes below.
135 12th St NW, Canton, OH 44703 $21,000Sold for $17,000
Unless someone can save this old house, the wrecking ball is sure to demolish it. The Queen Anne fixer upper is located in a heavily commercial strip of Canton, Ohio, where once a row of wonderful homes stood. (The house at the bottom of the page once sat across the street from our featured home. During last years of its life, it served as an antique store. An electrical fire destroyed the home.)
Sure, it needs loads of work, but have you ever seen a house packed with so many gorgeous interior elements priced this low? The mantels, original kitchen and tiled bathroom floor make my heart beat faster.
Save this old house. Grand and impressive in its day, this Queen Anne style home is yearning for a new owner who will revive her back to her original beauty. Known for her turret dome, wrap-around porch with turned posts, decorative brackets, and spindlework on the exterior and an abundance of large spacious rooms on the interior.
Although much work is needed, there’s still so much potential. Too many amenities to mention, but some unique features must be noted such as a butler’s pantry and bell station in the kitchen along with a rear discrete staircase to the second floor. Quality hardwood floors, woodwork, doors and fireplaces, most in exceptional condition. Truly a gem in the rough with many possibilities, this property is zoned B-3 (General Business). Sold as is ; cash only; no repairs.

This Queen Anne home for sale in Lucille Ball’s hometown of Jamestown, New York, was built by the niece of former New York Governor Reuben Fenton in 1888. The double front doors with transom with street number, staircase, built-ins, hardwood floors and wainscoting are stunning. I love the triple windows going up the staircase.

14 Carl St, Rochester, NY 14621 $47,400Sold for $47,000
Hmm, a cute looking move-in ready house in a working class neighborhood of Rochester, New York. The c.1910 home has been tastefully renovated. Kitchen and bath are updated and the front door transom is gone, but they kept the ornate ceiling, moldings, doors and hardwood floors intact. I wouldn’t have thought to paint the home yellow and red, but I like it!
Totally remodeled 3 bed, 1 bath move-in ready Rochester home with private fully fenced in yard and detached 1 car garage! Brand new kitchen, bathroom and plumbing. Newer thermopane windows, solid mechanics, new laminate hardwood flooring in the kitchen, and original hardwoods in living and dining area. Perfect rental property or first home!
1021 Considine Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45205 $42,500Sold for $12,000
I rarely see two-story shotgun houses. This c.1900 Cincinnati property sits on a street of some wonderful row houses, but sadly the neighborhood has a high crime rate. If you are looking for an investment property, though, this one, although rehabbed by Tom Sawyer and his white can of paint, is move-in ready.

The panelling in this c.1907 brick home in Decatur, Illinois, is absolutely amazing! The built-in corner cupboards and hardwood floors don’t disappoint either. Where the photos of the rest of the house are, I don’t know. Realtors need photography in-services.
