OHU50K loves to see recently sold houses and what they have sold for. We are so happy that these homes have found a savior.
Except for the first home below, you will notice that there was not much of a discount in the sales price vs. the asking price. In fact, the last home must have had a bidding war, because the sales price was substantially over the asking price!
That is due to the fact that while many businesses have taken a hit during the pandemic, the real estate market is booming. According to CoreLogic, first-time homebuyer applications jumped 20% in June compared to the same month a year ago.

Wow, for someone with deep pockets, this home offers beautiful original elements.I was pleasantly surprised that many of the interior elements are still intact in this oldie but goodie. It is getting harder to find these beauties, especially under our under $50K price constraints. This one still has its beautiful mantels, pocket doors, original double front doors and gorgeous staircase, but, of course at this price, needs a tremendous amount of work.
What is peculiar is the fact that OHU50K first featured this fixer upper back in March when it was listed at $14,900. It went off market, but is back at $39,900? Here is the original post. I don’t see any improvements made that would necessitate a price increase, do you?

I had to call my husband to see this beautiful old fixer upper. We love the quaint, sleepy little town of Mauricetown (pop.221). Nestled along the Maurice River, the historic hamlet is filled with lovely old homes, a couple of country churches and an antique shop or two.
This home was the vacation home of an older couple. And call me crazy, but that is my kind of kitchen! I even have the same Fiesta and Hall pitchers, all found for $5 or less at NJ yard sales. South Jersey has the best yard sales! Plus, it is only 30 minutes to Jersey Shore Beaches. Probably, Sea Isle City, where my in-laws have a summer house, is the closest.
One of the early settlers of the village was Captain Charles Sharp, who happens to be an ancestor of Captain Zadoc Sharp who built our own home in Cape May County.
Constructed around 1855, 1205 Front Street is known as the James Compton House. The Comptons were were a well-known seafaring family in town, and in fact, the David Compton House sits at #1201 Front Street, and the Edward Compton House at #1229 now houses the Mauricetown Historical Society and Museum.
From what I can gather, James Compton (1820-1858) lived in this house for a short time with his wife Mary and son Charles. James was postmaster of Mauricetown in the 1850s, and died at the early age of 38. Charles, too, died early at the age of 19. Mary had pre-deceased both at age 36.
