Viewing the interior pics, you might think this Pennsylvania fixer upper Victorian was a church. The stained glass windows and arches are extraordinary. But this gem was always a residence. The rich, dark woodwork, built-ins, inlaid hardwood floors and tiled bathrooms are pieces of art. When it was built, it sat high above the city in a prime spot with a view. Today, it is surrounded by parking lots in a commercial area.

Family History

This was the home of Jacob Black Adams (1861-1939) and his wife, Ella Collier Adams (1864-1944) from the 1910s to the 1940s. The couple had one son, Charles, who sadly died at  the age of one. After Mr. and Mrs. Adams passed, the home was rented out to boarders.

“Jacob Black Adams was born May 20, 1861, in Merrittstown Republic, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, a son of the Reverend Jesse Adams and Jane K Adams

From 1867 to 1885 the family lived in Waynesburg, that year Mr. Adams graduating from the Waynesburg College. He received his law degree in the University of Michigan and in 1886 was in the banking business in Kansas. In 1888 he was elected District Attorney of the county there, later moved to Missouri and finally to Uniontown, where he has been practicing law since 1897.

He is an extensive coal land owner, a thirty-second degree Mason, member of Fayette Lodge No. 228 and of the Consistory of Bloomsburg.
