W Railroad Ave, Lumber City, GA 31549. $119,000
History
This was the residence of Steamboat Captain Day. This Italianate brick home was built and occupied by Captain John L. Day (1838-1906) one of South Georgia’s most prominent citizens. It is not confirmed, but the home may have been the very first brick home in Lumber City.
Captain Day lived here with his first wife, Mary Strobhart Day (1844-1892) and their children, Ida, Henry and Thomas, seen in the image below. After Mary passed away, the Captain married Christian Florence McCrae who was 30 years his junior.
