Family History
This was the home of Joseph Stoker. Born in Alsace, France, in 1819. He came to the US in 1830 at the age of 11, and later learned his trade as a machinist. He was considered an “artisan in iron,” working in the Altoona shops for 34 years. Both Joseph and his wife were early residents of the city of Altoona. He lived in the home with his wife Barbara Anna, and seven children, Mary, Annie, Kate, Ella, Joseph, George and Francis. Joseph died in the home in 1887 at age 68 of heart issues. He was known as a kind and noble man.
