Family History
From 1939 to 1956, this was the home of Cornelius Irving Weiss (1912-1956). Irving, as he was known, was the owner of The Weiss Hardware Company and son of a former Dunkirk mayor. He and his wife, Estelle Leja Weiss (1914-1977) ran the store together. The couple had no children, Irving collapsed suddenly on a Dunkirk sidewalk in 1956 and was found dead. I always find it so sad when a person’s hard work and beloved home comes to this.
