Family History
It appears that the Andrew M. Nelson (1850-1937) and his heirs owned this home for many decades.
Andrew Magnus Nelson was born in Blackstad Parish, Sweden. At the age of 20, he left Sweden to join his brothers, first settling in New York. Andrew married his wife Hilda Sophia Nelson (1860-1951) in 1882 at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, and eventually the couple was able to buy the farm on Davis Street outright where they raised their nine children, William, Edward, Adele, Esther, Andrew, Ardell, Arthur, Mildred and Ruby.
After Andrew Sr.’s death, the family continued to live in the home. Even after Hilda’s death in 1950, her heirs kept the home.
