History

The town of Tanner was founded in 1812 by  Samuel Tanner and his family. The Tanners established a home in a cave, under the cliffs where Spencer Middle School now stands.  The cave consisted of two rooms with a partition of rock in between. The smaller room served as a stable for livestock.

The Masons laid the cornerstone for the school in 1928. I believe the building was the Tanner High School.
