Save This Old House ~ c.1865 Brick Fixer Upper in Fort Madison Iowa Under $36K ~ Sold
612 Avenue F, Fort Madison, IA 52627 $35,900 ~ Sold
OHU50K NOTES
This brick fixer upper home was once a real beauty. It has so many stunning original elements. It is difficult to pick a favorite, but I’d say the arched set of door and the floor-to-ceiling cupboard are perfection! OHU50K features the home in honor May’s National Preservation Month.
Although the house dates back to 1865, I was only able to trace its history to 1940 when Elmer Boegner, who worked in a feed store, lived there with his wife Louise, a stenographer, their son Elmer John, and a maid.
Fort Madison
Fort Madison (pop. 11,051) lies between small bluffs along one of the widest portions of the Mississippi River. The town was founded at the location of the first U.S. military fort in the upper Mississippi region. Today, a replica of the fort stands along the river. Our featured house is three blocks away from the Old Fort Madison site, Riverview Park, the marina and river.
