It’s right along the railroad tracks at the end of a brick-paved road! Wellborn was the first town in Suwannee County to have streets paved with bricks. It is believed that the well is running and both septic and electricity are on the property. Before plumbing and electricity, the kitchen was located in the open area at the rear of the house. Supposedly the roof and flooring are stable.
UPDATE: Due to readers asking for more historical information, I contacted Eric Musgrove, Historian, Purchasing, Records Management, TRIM, Professional Development, and Clerk to the Board of the Suwannee County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Here is what he graciously responded.
That is what is called the George Walters House.
Probably built around or before 1900 in the “Carpenter Classic” architectural style, most likely by a local builder. According to information provided by the State fifty years ago, it was rectangular in plan with a central hall, two rooms deep in the main structure of the home and a T-shaped porch in the rear. The railing on the two-story veranda is a variation of the typical Chinese chippendale pattern.
Unfortunately, when the State did research on the house in 1972, the owner was not very helpful and did not provide any history of the house. I’ve attached some photographs of it from the last 20 years or so as well.
