214 W 5th St, Anderson, IN, 46016       $25,000 ~ Sold

OHU50K NOTES

Save this old house. As I was taking the Google Map tour down the street of this once beautiful old house, I had to stop in my tracks. Just catty cornered from our featured home is a George F. Barber house ~ Modern Dwellings Design No. 24. You have to see it. It was one of Barber’s most popular house designs and he dubbed it the “King of Cottages.”
The W. 5th example is a high-end version of No.24. A close up of the finial atop the turret shows embossed faces. This tells me that this was originally an upper middle class neighborhood. In fact, there are still some fine Victorian houses on W. 5th. Unfortunately, our featured home has seen better days. Despite the dust, grime and decay, however, its beauty still shines through.
