What happened to this poor old house? Well, it apparently was abandoned, and the City of Schenectady now owns it. If you look at the 2007 photo below, it did not look half bad. Located in the Eastern Avenue neighborhood of Schenectady, the area has it good and bad points. While the neighborhood boasts some of the most affordable real estate in the Capital Region, a large number of the dwellings are rented out by absentee landlords. Like our featured home, maintenance is often not a priority with those landlords.

A 2011 newspaper ad reported that Stanley Penichten, of this address had unclaimed funds.  By this time, I think he had relocated to Orlando, Florida. Looks like Stanley may have left his walker, easy chair and wedding photo behind. The photo is propped up next to his chair and walker, so it is hard to believe he would have abandoned such a cherished photo.
